It’s a day off, yea!! Because it was a late night, we slept in a bit.
We started the day with a taxi ride the square to tour the Cathedral Barcelona. We saw the cathedral but decided it was time for food instead. We walked about a mile before we found ourselves back at the big city square from the night before. And, with my frustration with food the night before, we went with something safe; Hard Rock. I pigged OUT!
We met a nice couple from Malibu California. They were on their 50th anniversary Europe trip. He was huge, over six feet tall, and almost 300 pounds. It was funny when he said he wanted a “big” table. For 70+, they moved along great.
We then took a long walk to the most famous buildings in Barcelona, La Sagrada Familia. A church built by the architect Gaudi and dedicated to the Sacred Family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus. It was started in 1800 something. Gaudi died in 1926 when he was hit by a tram car and people mistook him to be a beggar. They expect to complete his original design in 2026, the 100th anniversary of his death.
We took a taxi back to the hotel to rest for a while. We took a taxi to the Montjuic Fountain near where the Olympics were held in 1992 (the year we got married). They call it the Magic Fountain. Each night they have a water show with lights and music. It was hard to hear the music but you get the idea. Because we got there so early, we had great “seats” on the top of a call, near the fountain. There must have been 2000 people there.
Our hotel recommended the restaurant Barceloneta for dinner. The food was awesome. Of course, we started with Tapas. And we split a steak as the main course. It was very well cooked (after we sent it back for being raw) and had a great flavor. In the way of Spain, dinner lasted two hours and we didn’t get back to the hotel until 12:30 in the morning. Normally, that wouldn’t be a big deal but …
Bone-head Bob scheduled a flight to Bordeaux at 8:00am the next morning. So, we have to get up at 5:30am to get ready. UGH!!
