We drove from San Gimignano to Florence today. It was quite an experience. The highways are fine but inside the city was a bit more stressful. Remember, driving here is a team sport. Thank goodness for GPS. To fill up the rental car with gas was 40 Euro (thats about $10/gallon).
Driving in Florence:
After driving down the most narrow road you can imagine, just enough for one car and one person, we arrived at our hotel called Hotel Monna Lisa. It’s very, very nice. Everyone is comfortable here.
This city is very different. The roads are narrow and crowded but the pace of life is much slower than home. Most of the buildings have a similar architecture but they are beautiful.
Our three hour walking tour was great. We learned about the history of Florence from the early 1400’s to today and how, after the black plague, they were some of the first capitalists in the world. Their economy was mostly based on banking and textiles. The churches are huge and beautiful.
Dinner on a square:
We have been following your trip with great interest. Looks and sounds like a great vacation. Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy
