Lynn and I went curling with friends this week. Drinks are allowed on the ice. It reminds me of bowling but colder.
It took some practice to get the push-off and slide just right but speed of the stone is everything. A bit too slow and you only get half-way down the lane. A bit too fast and it will crash into the wall.
I was amazed how much a small twist to the stone could cause it to “curl” one way or the other. And the sweeping really does help it move faster. What a fun experience.
Everyone asks, what about your shoes? We wore basic gym shoes and they give you little booties to put over them for traction on the ice. For the push, there is a small plastic “sole” that you step on for the slide. But you get away from it asap because that thing was SO slippery, you’ll kill yourself.
