Today was nearly as great as yesterday. We got another 4″ to 6″ of snow overnight. The good news is we were able to jump on the lifts immediately. We started with the tram and went straight to the top of the mountain.
We spent a lot of time exploring the whole mountain. We rode every lift on the mountain today. A couple of black diamonds runs were taken out by us. Man, those runs are steep.
The biggest challenge was the mineral basin. We started towards the basin at the bottom of the main mountain around 1:30. Just as we got to the top of the basin, a big cloud rolled in and we had a rough time finding a path down. The snow was at least three feet deep and we constantly got stuck because we were off the groomed trails (by mistake). Finally, we found the lift back to the top and rode down the mountain side. We got back to the main lodge at 3:30. Yes, it was a two hour run. Later, it turned out we took the blacks the entire way down. Thank God for watching over us today.
This was an amazing trip. My snowboarding improved immensely. I can make it down many of the blacks with no issue. I’m slow but can do it. My big issue is buckling my board at the top of every lift because my belly gets in the way.
We were both completely drained at the end of the day. There is no way I could ski tomorrow. Hopefully, the canyon road will be open tomorrow so we can get to the airport as planned.
Here’s Bob with a cool rolling wipe-out. The image is jerky because Nathan’s hands were cold.
